Chinese new year celebrated for the first time on the Dam

The celebration of the Chinese new year this year is greater than before. Tonight is a fireworks show on the roof of hotel Krasnapolsky. That this party has been extended, is not without reason: China is becoming increasingly important for Amsterdam.

After the firework display that tonight begis around half past 8 on the Dam, it will be followed by a martial arts show and various performances. Also keeps Alderman Simone Kalra a speech.

Won Yip, the great gastronomic boss behind Majestic and also resident, organizes the Damviering tonight. With the show the entrepreneur will let see that China is becoming increasingly important for the city.

250.000 Chinese tourists arrived last year in Netherlands and half of it was in Amsterdam. Yip: ‘ That’s why sponsors as NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky and Gassan joined the Organization of the party. They receive a lot of Asian visitors. ‘

The traditional program – a lion dance in the area around de Zeedijk –  is not called into question. The Chinese Ondernemersverening Amsterdam celebrates the holiday with the entrepreneurs in Chinatown. Tomorrow the procession starts around 12.00 hours from the Chinese temple on the Zeedijk through the streets.
