Amsterdam closes at least nine massage salons that offer sexual services. The city wants to put an end to illegal prostitution in this kind of ‘ happy ending’-salons, but that is tricky: each time new business opens.
During a control action among Asian massage parlors in a month and a half was sperm found in twelve of the thirteen salons. Most of these salons are located in the East, Centre and South. Checks were held at the end of last year on the basis of tips from residents, information on internet and signals of enforcement officials of the municipality. ‘ At twelve of the thirteen salons very clear are traces found, ‘ says a spokesman for Mayor Eberhard van der Laan. The sperm can be seen using lamps with uv light.
Of nine business is reporting completed and Van der Laan has decided to close them. Six salons have done this indeed, three salons not yet. They do not agree with the decision and have instituted legal proceedings. In the meantime, they can remain open. On the three salons that the report is not finished yet, the Mayor must still make a decision. ‘ But it’s going to be similar situations, “said the spokesman.
For the municipality is tackling abuses in massage parlours high priority. In addition to reducing illegal prostitution it is unfair competition in relation to licensed sex companies. ‘ We need to prevent exploitation and human trafficking. It is not intended that the ladies who we drive out from the window prostitution are locating in the massage parlors, “said the spokesman.
Problem is that new salons come. The approach is a long-term and time-consuming matter, the spokesman said. According to the municipality there are some 130 business in the city. The massage parlors are for years under a magnifying glass. A few times a year checks are held with a lot of enforcement officers to screen the salons. This is not just about new business, but also for reinspections.
In the event of violations salons in principle are closed for an unlimited period. The owners can start conversation with the municipality. If they can prove that prostitution is not longer an issue, then potentially they can open again.
