Gumball 3000 in May in Amsterdam

The circus of Gumball 3000 picks up again through Amsterdam, with the Arena as a stopover. Djs, rappers, oil sheikhs, actors and other well-off, and all those in race cars that cost against the million-or more. For the seventeenth time the Gumball 3000 party of the British race is held by the intercontinental Armani model Maximillion Cooper.

This time they drive from Stockholm to Las Vegas, and on May 26, they keep a pit-stop in Amsterdam. First with a gala performance-and deejayset of Afrojack in the Amsterdam Arena, and then, the organisation has rented the entire Hotel Conservatory for private afterparty. The Gumball 3000 is inspired by the 1970s classic The Cannonball Run: drive as hard as possible from one city to another, and in between making as much fun as possible. David Hasselhoff (‘ The Hoff ‘) is again present and also Johnny Knoxville (Jackass) and skateboard champion Tony Hawk. Lewis Hamilton will participate the Gumball 3000, between two formula races.

It will be a procession of special, and very expensive sports cars. For lovers: Hamilton comes in a Mercedes Gullwing (the classic from 1954), DJ Deadmou5 in a McLaren P1 (there are only a few of them), and further a Porsche 918 Spider, a Pagani Zonda and the only Audi RS6 with a thousand HP.
Hendrik Jan de Mari, commercial Director of the Arena,  took out the circus in to the Arena. All supercars will drive just between the normal traffic and hopefully they will respect the speeding rules. And in the evening together having fun. ‘ Sounds like the ultimate boyhood dream. Mari: ‘ Yes, it’s a bit naughty. Therefore car manufacturers are not sponosring this event, because there will be driven driven too hard. ‘ An understatement. On the internet are movies of previous editions with cheerful participants with a breast pocket full of speeding tickets in Spain. Also movies by the way of Times Square, which last year was closed for the entry and changed in a car Carnival. Mari: ‘ it is basically one great circus parade. Supercars driving slowly near the mass, with open roofs and crazy people and groupies. ‘
‘ The Gumballkaravaan is exactly between two weekends in May in Amsterdam in which de Toppers will perform at concerts for a total of 340,000 spectators. The stage is there already. All the cars will be driven in to the Arena. The most famous participants are on the Centre spot interviewed by Eddy Zoey. Then DJ Afrojack will play a set of an hour.
But now we must have that 30,000 people. Mari: ‘ a combination of house and fast cars; I think it will be full immediately. It’s then the third day of Pentecost, it will be good weather. Ideal for a father-son night. ‘ That is, if all participants arrive at least. The last time was four years ago, in the Netherlands, police was controling along the route, and several participants lost their driver’s licenses. Mari: ‘ Oh well, they are always with two people in a car. And that Americans think: well, I may no longer driving in the Netherlands. So what?

About Frank Scheers

My hometown Amsterdam is a wonderful starting point for journalism. Amsterdam stands for freedom of speech and tolerance. As a journalist, I can express freely and without restrictions on what is happening in Amsterdam, but also in the rest of the world. I write my own content as much as possible, but also scan the rest of the globe for striking news. This news doesn't always have to be breaking news. This can be very interesting news that is as important as breaking news, but slightly less known and just as important to the way people form their opinions. In addition to news from Amsterdam and the world news I also write about articles on politics, fashion, luxury, health, environment, entertainment, life style, business, education, shopping, wining and dining, travel and so on. Amsterdam Today is an active online news magazine and we bring articles in Dutch and in English. Important to mention is that Amsterdam Today deals with Immersive Journalism. That means that we bring fascinating news in combination with virtual reality techniques. You will experience the news as if you were there. Contact: Website | More Posts
